Knox County’s MAP testing begins
August 12 and will conclude August 23.

Your child will not be testing each day. This window allows us time to create a positive testing environment for all students and ample time for make-up testing for those who may be absent on their test date.

What is MAP testing?

MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive test. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This type of assessment challenges top performers without overwhelming students whose skills are below grade level.

Students in Grades K-8 will take the MAP Growth assessments for Reading and Math 3x per year. Fall, Winter, and Spring. Additionally, students in 4th and 7th grade will take the science MAP growth assessment, and students in 5th and 8th grade will take the Language MAP growth assessment for editing and mechanics. We allow for a two-week testing window for all students to be tested, and ideally, each test should take less than 45 minutes to complete.

MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.

MAP Growth tests are unique and adapt to your child’s responses to measure your child’s knowledge. These results will provide a more complete picture of where your child is on their learning journey— regardless of whether they are on, above, or below their grade level.

Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores in similar skills and topics and then plan instruction accordingly.

MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students in the same grade and subject with the same starting performance level.
