Professional Learning encompasses all of the components of the SBIS (standards based instructional system). Professional learning must be driven by data and the needs of the individual, teacher, school and/or district. There must be a direct correlation to an individual teacher’s Growth Plan, the school’s CSIP or the district’s CDIP for a teacher to attend any professional learning workshop, conference, meeting, training, etc. Principals will approve any and all professional learning for their school and individual teachers.
Professional learning continues to move in a different direction. Yes, we continue to require 24 hours of professional learning activities to be documented outside of the school day, but professional learning is on-going and can look very different. Many times professional learning opportunities will take place in PLCs or teacher’s meetings on a regular basis. Learning from a colleague can also be a wealth of professional learning. Those who attend trainings may be asked to come back and share in one form or another to other colleagues. We want to continue to want to grow as professionals and do what best for kids.
For many professional growth opportunities, you will register to participate using CIITS. Each teacher should use the log (linked from this site) to record their professional growth throughout the year.
