The KCPS Shining Star Award was first introduced in 2011 as a way to recognize the district’s classified support staff for going above and beyond the call of duty in serving our students. It is being re-introduced in 2017 as part of our strategic plan to create a culture of excellence in the school system.
All classified employees (secretaries, cooks, instructional assistants and aides, clerks, bookkeepers, bus drivers, monitors, custodians, maintenance, student workers, etc.) are eligible for the Shining Star award. Nominations are accepted for our classified support employees who have gone above and beyond to serve others through superior customer service.
Who may nominate someone?
Employees may be nominated by any stakeholder (parent, student, co-worker, community member) for the award. If you see someone going above the beyond, and shining like a star in what they do, nominate them!
When will employees be selected for the award?
Nominations will be reviewed the last week of each calendar month and employees will be notified of their selection during the week that follows. Nominations are due by 12:00 noon on the Monday of the last week of the month. Employees may be nominated multiple times, however, the same employee may only win the award once each school year.
Who reviews the nominations?
A review committee consisting of the Superintendent/designee, certified staff, classified staff, and community representatives review the nominations each month.
How do I nominate someone for the award?
Fill out our online nomination form or visit our Central Office for assistance completing the nomination. Each department supervisor or principal can also direct you to this site and help you completing the nomination if you require technical assistance.
