Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council

It is the belief of Superintendent Sprinkles that students should be informed and engaged in the education that they receive in the Knox County Public Schools.

2016-2017 Student Members:

12th Grade:  Mackenzie Hensley (KCHS), Faith Hinkle (LCHS), and Brooklyn Bryant (LCHS)
10th Grade:  Dane Imel (KCHS), Dalton Cook (LCHS)
8th Grade:  Amara Lewis (LCMS), Zach Smith (KCMS), and Reaghan Jones (KCMS)
6th Grade:  Robert McWilliams (Flat Lick) and Bracken Castle (GR Hampton)

Purpose:  The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council will meet with Superintendent Kelly Sprinkles to discuss how decisions made at the school and district level are affecting students throughout the county. Members serve as liaisons between Superintendent Sprinkles, the Knox County Board of Education, and the students of Knox County.

Eligibility:  All 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students are eligible to apply.

Term of service:   Students on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council during the 2016-2017 school year will serve a term of one year.

When will meetings be held:  Meetings are tentatively set to occur once every two months, beginning in October 2016.  The meeting will be scheduled for a Monday afternoon from 3:45pm to 5pm.  Meetings will be scheduled in advance to allow parents/guardians/schools ample time to work out student transportation logistics.

What will be discussed:  A wide variety of topics from teaching and learning, to the school climate and culture, to the obstacles facing students today.  While each agenda will include a primary topic of conversation for the meeting, students are invited to share concerns and ideas at any time.

Application form:  The application for 2017-2018 will be available in spring 2017.
